BloodHound - Fridge Management

Blood Tracking Fridge Management

MSoft use the IBM Anyplace Kiosk to control access to blood fridges. The screen is easy to follow and prompts the user on what to do next.

The kiosk talks in real-time with the central server to ensure blood is safe, and if blood is not in the fridge for a given patient then the fridge will not unlock.

When removing blood from the fridge, after checking the blood is correct for a given patient, the system tracks the transportation process. If cool boxes are used these can be bar-coded and scanned as part of the blood out process.

An on-screen emergency access button is provided and can be configured to work from the login screen or from the menu screen after the user has logged in. Any time the emergency override button is used the kiosk sounds an alert, an alert is sent to the lab, plus a full time stamp, of who, what, where is recorded.

A separate set of blood in and out functions exist for highly trained users allowing multiple units to be easily entered or removed from the fridge.

A remote issue solution exists allowing the kiosk to act as control for stock blood allowing it to be remotely issued for patients.

In case of either power failure or software failure, the lock on the fridge will default to open. Each kiosk can run on a Trust’s standard XP desktop build thereby making the solution a fully supported system. MSoft will add its specific software on top of this. Each kiosk just needs a network connection and power socket.

Web Interface

The web interface allows Ward staff to check if blood is ready for their patient and where it currently is. Staff only see the options they have access to see making the system easy to use and highly configurable and safe. All administration is performed via the web interface giving lab staff a vast amount of control over how the system is used.

Apart from the standard administration functions, senior staff can also amend blood storage rules, transportation rules, user training requirements, fate units not fated on ward, direct issue blood without using the kiosk, plus many other unique functions.

The MSoft system can track any special requirements for a patient. These are shown in a field on the web interface next to the patient name and product cross matched for that patient.
