BloodHound - Bedside System

BloodHound Bedside Blood Tracking Application

BloodHound's bedside applications runs on a wide range of devices that support Windows applications. MSoft’s preferred mode of operation is for the bedside devices to work in a wireless environment.

This allows real time communication with the BloodHound system, however the software can also work via docking.

To ensure the bedside application was easy to use, MSoft spent time liaising with nursing staff and gained their direct input into the look and feel of the system.

This enabled MSoft to create an easy to use, intuitive system; allowing data to be entered using finger sized buttons, and presenting clear unambiguous information to the operator.

The bedside software consists of a number of programs to provide the following functions:

  • Ward Receipt – time stamps delivery of blood to ward
  • Begin Transfusion – guides nurse through checking blood is safe for that patient
  • End Transfusion – includes ability to state why transfusion ended
  • Take Observations – including mandatory taking of 15min Observations
  • Sluice Receipt - blood wastage monitoring
  • Charts -Can view observations per patient in either chart or table format

Hand Held Reader Used in Blood Tracking

The Ward receipt module allows blood to be receipted at ward thereby showing the time of arrival at ward and who receipted the unit in the audit trail

The Begin transfusion module is used to guide a nurse through checking that correct bedside checks are performed before commencing the transfusion, including ensuring blood products are being administered to the right patient.

This program can be customised to meet your requirements including adding additional questions such as Patient consent gained. This data is shown in the audit trail.

The End Transfusion Module is used to quickly end the transfusion either after a reaction, or in critical care areas where observations are not being inputted. This program automatically sends the fate of the unit back to the Lab system. This data is shown in the audit trail.

The Take Observations Module is used to input observations for a patient and mandate that 15min observations are taken. This program automatically end the fate of unit back to the Lab system. This data is shown in the audit trail.

The Sluice Receipt Module allows blood units to be shown as being deposited in the Sluice area. This data is shown in the audit trail.

In summary all modules within the bedside application allow a high degree of customisation thereby allowing the system to fit seamlessly into your existing working environment. They provide positive patient identification at the bedside using up to 6 points of reference from a 2D barcoded wristband and improve safety for both patients and nursing staff.
